The New Horizons String Orchestra is open to adults who play violin, viola, cello, or bass who are interested in building technique, musicianship and ensemble skill in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Sessions are in a traditional orchestra rehearsal format and address music reading, rhythm skills, instrument technique, ensemble playing and following a conductor. Music is carefully chosen that will accommodate members at the beginning through more advanced levels. Musical selections include a variety of styles.
Members have the opportunity to work with mentors for support with technique and reading.
Performances include concerts in December and May and the opportunity to participate in small ensemble performances in the March Spring Fling. Other playing opportunities may include collaborations with the New Horizons Symphony Orchestra, New Horizons band ensembles, concerto performances with soloists, Rochester city school music departments, and concerts in senior residential communities.
