The Rochester New Horizons Saxophone Ensemble is a 10-person group comprised of soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone players from around the Rochester area. The ensemble is currently directed by saxophonist and Eastman School of Music MM student Timothy Coene, and it has a deep history of ESM student directors. Many previous directors have gone on to perform in U.S. premiere military bands and hold university professorships across the country. The ensemble prides itself on its diverse repertoire choices, providing members the opportunity to study and perform classical, jazz, and popular music all in one ensemble.
Here are a few thoughts that current director Tim Coene shares about the group: “I am constantly inspired by the love for music-making that each member of the NHSE brings to our musical interactions. The members of this ensemble are always striving to improve and eager to find any nugget of knowledge available. The group is currently looking for new members, so if you are a saxophonist and are interested in joining or simply want more information, feel free to send me an email at tcoene@u.rochester.edu.”
