The New Horizons Full Orchestra is designed for adults with experience on orchestral instruments, and who are interested in building/reinforcing their ensemble skills through challenging repertoire choices. Sessions are in a traditional ‘orchestra-rehearsal’ format and address a variety of topics, including music-reading, rhythm skills, instrument technique, ensemble playing, and following a conductor. Participants are encouraged to share their questions, as well as their successes and struggles in rehearsal, as participants have much to learn from each other. Repertoire choices will consist of classical favorites, famous orchestral scores, some original scores, and arrangements from an intermediate to advanced level.
Featured Ensemble:
Symphony Orchestra

Led by Nancy Strelau, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the Symphony Orchestra performed for family and friends at the Unitarian Church followed by a reception for all. Trumpet player Bill Pierce was featured, offering a powerful performance of music from the movie Apollo 13. The group also performed a movement from Dvorak’s New World Symphony, a movement from Brahm’s Symphony No. 1, music from Rossini’s Barber of Seville, and a short overture by Emma Lou Diemer.
Nancy says, "I am so impressed by this group of musicians, not only because they created exciting and emotional moments at our performance, but they bring so much passion to their collective approach in rehearsing. With that said, we are currently recruiting string players (you can never have enough strings!!), horn and trumpet players, trombonists and bassoonists for this group. If interested in tackling a variety of music from pop to classical, just send me an email at nstrela1@naz.edu."
