Eastman - Rochester New Horizons Music
The Birthplace of New Horizons.  Founded in 1991 by Dr. Roy Ernst, Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY
Member Profile
Ken Slining:  French Horn
I started with music in 7th grade with piano. I started playing tuba at 13 and continued through high school, college, and a few years with community bands. Then a break for work and family.

I worked at Kodak for 34 years as a chemical engineer and manufacturing manager except for 3 1/2 years as an active duty Naval Reserve Officer. After leaving Kodak I had my own practice in Shiatsu and Massage Therapy. I’m a licensed Professional Engineer and a licensed Massage Therapist.

I joined New Horizons in 1999, again playing tuba until the switch to French Horn in the spring of 2012.

I met John Rainer, Jr., a native Taos Pueblo, in 1987 and became hooked on the Native American Flute. I’ve been playing since, and have spent several weeks with R. Carlos Nakai. I’ve taught an introduction to Native American Flute workshops at New Horizon’s band camps at Chautauqua and Interlochen.

I’ve also played Japanese Shakuhachi for 9 years.

Alice and I have two daughters, a son and 4 grandchildren.
