Eastman - Rochester New Horizons Music
The Birthplace of New Horizons. Founded in 1991 by Dr. Roy Ernst, Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY
I was born and raised in York, Pennsylvania. My formal schooling includes a BS degree in Industrial Design from the Philadelphia College of Art and an MFA degree in Painting from the College of Arts & Architecture at Penn State University. My career has been as an artist/teacher. I am a professor emeritus from the College of Imaging Arts & Science at R.I.T. with 31 years of teaching design, sculpture & drawing. As an artist I maintain an active art studio and have exhibited sculpture & paintings in regional, national & international exhibitions.
I joined the New Horizons Symphonic Band in spring of 2012 and I am also playing with the Brasso Profundo group this year. I also play with the Mark Time Marchers during the summer & fall doing many parades from Buffalo to Rochester. I am still playing my 1915 Eb tuba that I started with in 1950 which turned out to be the oldest tuba at this year’s 2012 Tuba Christmas. I enjoy sharing activities with my talented wife, Gail, who is also an artist and retired teacher. We live in Fishers, N.Y. in a house that I designed and had built in 2007. My son and grandson live in the Washington, D.C. area. I look forward to meeting new people as I continue playing and enjoying music with the New Horizon Bands.
