Eastman - Rochester New Horizons Music
The Birthplace of New Horizons.  Founded in 1991 by Dr. Roy Ernst, Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY
Member Profile
Ginny Palumbos:  Violin
I’m originally from Irondequoit, NY. My husband’s career took us to Massachusetts, Michigan, down state New York and New Jersey.
In 1997, while living in NJ, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Literature from Ramapo College of New Jersey. One of my required courses peaked my interest in classical music.
Eventually we moved back to Rochester where I worked, until retirement, at the U of R Medical Center coordinating the 3rd year medical student clerkship program in the Department of Pediatrics. While living out-of-town I used to tell my husband that if we ever moved back to Rochester I’d love to learn to play the violin and take lessons at Eastman School but, in reality, I don’t think I ever expected to actually fulfill that wish. Low and behold, after I retired Vince bought me a violin and even did the research until he found out about New Horizons (totally calling my bluff)! I’d never even picked up a violin at that point so this has definitely been a challenge as well as an unexpected opportunity since I had no musical background whatsoever.
I’ve learned so much, met many talented and interesting people (students and teachers alike ~~ thank you to the teachers who have worked with us, especially Agah Yarbo- Davenport) – it’s been a journey of personal growth while experiencing the joy of making music!!
In addition to studying violin I take watercolor classes and enjoy watercolor painting, traveling and spending time our five grandchildren (only the two youngest grandchildren live locally). Four year-old Levi currently takes violin lessons at Eastman (with a little nudge from Grandma) ~ he’s doing great; we’re proud of his progress!!
I look forward to continuing in the New Horizons Program and also would love to play in a community orchestra in the foreseeable future. I could never have imagined this a few years ago!
