Eastman - Rochester New Horizons Music
The Birthplace of New Horizons. Founded in 1991 by Dr. Roy Ernst, Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY
I was born and raised in England and emigrated to the US after High School. I attended Rutgers University and was then drafted into the US Army for two years. The army sent me to photo school, and I became an army photographer stationed in Germany where I met a number of Kodakers in the Photo Unit. They persuaded me to apply to Kodak after my release from the service, and I spent the next 31 years there, not as a photographer, but in the Production Planning Division at Kodak Park where I eventually became Division Director before taking early retirement in 1986.
Always interested in music, I played piano as a youngster but never had an opportunity to join an ensemble in school or later. Then I discovered New Horizons in 1995 and Ed Mizma taught me how to play the French horn in a Green Band of five people! I played the horn until a couple of years ago when arthritis in the fingers cramped my style. So now I'm learning the trombone, and so thankful for New Horizons and the opportunity to still play.
I am married since 1998 to Peggy Hall, violinist in the orchestra. Between us, we have 5 children and 7 grandchildren and live in a townhome in Penfield.
