A native of Sweden, Dr. Jenny Välitalo has performed as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician on five continents. Active as a performer, teacher, and scholar, Jenny’s primary research interests include eighteenth-century German and Swedish music, history and performance practice. Her current research on the Berlin court during the time of Frederick the Great is made possible by generous support from both European and U.S. sources.
Following studies in the Artist Diploma program at the Royal Academy of Music and Edsbergs Musikinstitut, Jenny was awarded a Fulbright grant for graduate studies at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she completed a Master’s degree studying with Professor Carol Rodland and conductor Benjamin Zander. Jenny completed her Doctorate degree at the Eastman School of Music.
Invested in the field of music education, Jenny has been featured as a teacher, soloist and panelist at international events and conferences. Recent engagements include performing as a soloist and teaching a master class at the European String Teachers’ Association International Conference. A member of professional affiliations for education and cultural exchange, Jenny enjoys opportunities to share the joy of music while fostering social and academic growth for children and youth in developing countries as well as urban settings.
Jenny has the privilege of serving as a teacher and mentor for students at the university, elementary school and community levels.
